U-Build

U-Build was developed by award winning architects Studio Bark. U-Build aims to transform the way people think about buildings and the way they are built, by simplifying the construction process and enabling anyone to participate.

Working with Our Place we developed a website with a ‘design your own’ tool to allow users to experiment with various options and see what buildings are possible and get an immediate estimated cost.

The ‘design your own’ tool works really well, how was this concept developed?

Before starting phase one we researched tools such as ShapeDiver (automatically turns parametric CAD files into interactive 3D models) and created prototypes. But we felt this was a bit over complex for phase one of the website. This led us to suggest a more user friendly tool that users could interact with to easily understand the concept and get an estimated cost for various sizes and iterations.

This site will be developed in phases what’s lined up for the next one?

Developing websites in phases allows us to gather feedback and base any changes on actual user data. We have a few ideas and requests from the client, but for now we are waiting to gather feedback from users before rushing in to make any immediate changes.
